Spring beauty trends: Dewy skin + bold brows
THIS spring, feminine athleticism takes over the runways in the form of flawless, dewy skin and full, bold brows.
? Trend 1: Dewy skin
Spotted at numerous shows, including Alberta Ferretti, Dolce & Gabbana and Balmain, the dewy look can take years off your age and is no doubt one of the most coveted. To master the art of "the glow" here are some effective tricks:
1. Regardless of your skin type, always start with moisturized skin. Stick to liquid and cream-based foundations, B.B. creams and tinted moisturizers. Look for products with words like "radiant" and "luminous" and stay away from anything that is matte or sparkly.
To create the flawless base, famed makeup artist Tom Pecheux suggests this: Mix equal parts of foundation with a high-moisture content serum like Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair on the back of your hand. Pat the mixture directly onto the skin and press with your palm to help it melt into the skin completely.
2. Add extra radiance to your skin by brushing a highlighter right on top of the cheekbone, down the bridge of the nose and on the bow of the lip. Use a product with a pearly rather than shimmery or glittery finish. Color-wise, cool-based silvers and pinks like Benefit Girl Meets Pearl are perfect for lighter skin tones while darker complexions can pull off warmer golden hues (try MAC Cream Colour Base in Improper Copper).
3. Lay off the powder and let your natural shine come through. If you are on the oily side, just set your makeup with a good makeup spray like Make Up For Ever Mist & Fix and keep a pack of blotting papers handy to avoid a mid-day meltdown.
? Trend 2: Bold brows
Beauty guru Pat McGrath might have brought bleached brows back last fall but strong arches are definitely in full swing this season. At Moschino, black and brown mascara covered models' brows to create a boyish, Frida Kahlo-inspired look, while penciled-in brows dominated the Altuzarra show, courtesy of MAC Smolder Eye Kohl and MAC Carbon Eyeshadow.
To go from runway to everyday, moderation is key. Keep your brows well-groomed and start by brushing them upward to give the illusion of thickness. Then, fill in any sparse areas using a powder one shade or two darker than your hair color. Set with a clear brow wax or brow gel.
Bobbi Brown Brow Kit in Dark comes with a double-sided mirror, mini set of tweezers, stiff angled brush and two dark-colored shadows that are perfect for Asian brows - everything you need to rock this look.
