Whitening products and treatments for spring

EVERY year at this time, skincare and makeup companies offer a new slew of whitening products. But effective results require much more than a miracle product, so take other steps for a brighter complexion.

Start with the right base. Remove all traces of makeup, dirt and dead skin so beauty treatments can better penetrate the skin. La Prairie Cellular Microdermabrasion Cream, the cream of the crop among exfoliators, contains micronized diamonds, fresh water pearls and quartz crystals to gently, deeply exfoliate the skin, giving results equivalent to a spa treatment.

Use a topical whitening treatment. Specially formulated for Asian skin, La Mer The Whitening Essence Intense contains an ultra-potent formula of the legendary Miracle Broth along with glucosamine, algae blends, kelp and vitamins C and E to brighten, moisturize and fight aging.

Moisturize religiously. Dry, parched skin looks dull so keeping skin hydrated is a must for your natural glow to shine through. Ba Yan Ka La Ultra Moisturizing Mask, enriched with Chinese mulberry to slow skin aging and restore vitality, is a must.

Prevention is better than correction. Stay out of the sun as much as possible, especially during peak hours (10am-3pm) and always slather on a broad-spectrum sunblock with at least SPF 30/PA++ every day. Apply generously 20-30 minutes before exposure and make sure to include the eye area, where skin is thinnest. Reapply every two hours and right after swimming or intense sweating.

If you wear makeup, choose a product with sunscreen. Guerlain Blanc de Perle Brightening Fluid Foundation and Blanc de Perle Brightening Compact Foundation are both infused with pure pearl extracts and SPF20/PA++ to protect the skin while targeting dark spots and pigmentation.

Eat and drink your way to clearer, more vibrant skin. Drinking plenty of water and consuming foods rich in vitamin C like strawberries, tomatoes and lemons can help flush out toxins, enhance collagen and inhibit the production of melanin.
