Animals up close in Singapore

STARTING in August, visitors to Singapore’s River Safari can enjoy a 15-minute cruise along the upper Seletar Reservoir. The man-made lake winds through the forests inhabited by local species such as long-tailed macaques and Varanus salvators. Boats with a capacity of 40 to 50 visitors commute between the Singapore Zoo and Night Safari, offering visitors a chance for a close-up observation of zoo residents, like giraffes and rhinos, and even elephants drinking water along the lake bank. The cruise is available daily from 9:30am to 5:30pm, at a price of S$5 (US$4) for adults, and S$3 for children aged 3-12.
