Autumn is great season at Huzhou on Taihu Lake

HUZHOU in Zhejiang Province is a place where people can spend a relaxing weekend in autumn. The newly developed southern Taihu Lake holiday zone by the city features traditional cultural sites, lakeside resorts and the biggest autumn treat: hairy crabs.
The zone will hold a tourism festival from September to November.
What to see:
A sailing contest and an X-games competition will be held late this month. Players from all over the country will gather at Taihu Lake in the bright and cool fall to challenge their limits. Chinese bands will perform between events so audiences will not get bored.
Visitors who prefer a quiet place can go to have a look at the Ancient Trees Museum and the Fahua Buddhist Temple. The museum collects the roots and trunks of trees that are centuries old. Found in the rivers, underground, or on top of the mountains, the collections look like artificial sculpture works, but the true artist is nature.
Fahua Buddhism Temple on Bianshan Hill, nearly 600 years old, is believed to be where Guanyin Bodhisattva became a monk. The present temple was rebuilt in 2000.
What to eat:
Autumn is the season of hairy crabs. Although crabs produced in Taihu Lake are not as well-known as those in Yangcheng Lake, many people consider the quality to be as good or better.
The Taihu Lake crabs produce rich roe. The meat is quite full inside the shell. Steaming is the most popular way of cooking as it keeps the original flavor of the crabs to a maximum extent. The crabs can be made into hundreds of different dishes. The delicate taste of crabs makes harmonious combination with vegetables and other river food, such as shrimp. A hairy crab festival will be held this autumn when visitors can enjoy the crabs to their heart’s content.
Where to stay:
Sheraton Huzhou Hot Spring Resort, also known as the Moon Hotel, is a landmark of the southern Taihu Lake area. Apart from its high-end hot spring and spa resources, built on the water, the hotel allows customers to enjoy the natural beauty of Taihu Lake.

People loving Mediterranean style may enjoy the Columbo Taihu Castle Resort. The lakeside resort is decorated in a southwestern European style. The wide lake view is a bonus to the customers.
