Chilling out at Xianyue Mountain Park

Q: What do you find special about Xiamen?

A: Xiamen is truly a melt­ing port of traditional and contemporary cultures. Geographically, it sits at the crossroads of many shipping and air routes among major countries. The proximity of major hubs like Shanghai, Taipei and Hong Kong give Xiamen a natural advantage in both trade and commerce activities. It’s coastal location also means much cleaner surroundings to live and play in. Foreign influences from the past and present and it’s respect for traditions and modern way of living make Xiamen a very interesting, livable city.

Q: What do you suggest visitors pack when visiting Xiamen?

A: Casual is the key word here, so casual clothing and comfortable walking shoes, sunglasses and a good walk­ing map (Le Meridien Xiamen provides a specially designed map that features hidden gems and places for guests to find and explore).

Q: Where do you like to go most in Xiamen? Why?

A: There are many places that I visit depending on my mood. There is a long list of restaurants that serve a variety of cuisines. Al fresco and seaside cafes, seafood restaurants and fair grounds are abundant along most visi­tor sites. My personal favorite is Haiwan Park in the evening for a cold beer and Orient Golf Course (15 minutes’ walk away from the hotel), where I pretend to play golf.

Q: What do you suggest visi­tors do upon arriving Xiamen?

A: Go and explore the seaside and then try the local delicacies. Satay sauce noodles, seaworm jelly, peanut soup and oyster omelets are just of a few of thefamous local snacks.

Q: What’s your favorite place in Xiamen for a stroll or jogging?

A: The Le Meridien is directly connected to Xianyue Mountain Park, which is a popular place for the locals to exercise and get away from the hustle and bustle of the city without getting out of the town. The trail along the park provides joggers and walkers a panorama view of Xiamen’s skyline, ancient Buddhist temples and teahouses along the trail walk.

Q: What do you think is the best purchase in Xiamen?

A: Xiamen sweet cakes that come in many forms and colors.

Q: Where do you suggest visitors go for authentic Xia­men cuisine?

A: Zhongshan Pedestrian Street has many local restau­rants and shops that serve local cuisine and snacks. There are many popular seafood restaurants along the main coastal boulevard. Our hotel’s concierge will be able to rec­ommend cuisines from Indian to Southeast Asian, French to American barbecue.

Q: What’s your favorite way to travel around Xiamen?

A: Walking whenever it’s possible and via BRT (a fixed route bus service).

Q: What do you value most when choosing a hotel in Xiamen?

A: Location and friendliness.

Q: For what would you chase the housekeeping?

A: Hot yak butter tea and two cans of oxygen as turn-down amenities in a hotel in Zhongdian, Yunnan Province.
