Q: What do you find special about Xiamen?
A: Xiamen has a tropical climate with relatively clean air and friendly people. This is different from other cities in China.
Q: What do you suggest visitors pack when going to Xiamen?
A: In summer, you may bring along your sneakers, T-shirts and shorts as Xiamen is a city where you are pleased to discover a lot on foot. In winter, nice warm weather clothes will be suitable. Oh, you may also leave your suitcase empty so you can go shopping.
Q: Where do you like to go most in Xiamen? Why?
A: One of my favorite places in Xiamen is Gulang Island, the pearl of Xiamen which is renowned for its beautiful beaches, winding lanes, varied historical colonial architectures and pianos. Zhongshan Pedestrian Street, where you find authentic Fujian and Taiwan delicacies. South Putuo Temple was first built into the mountainside in late Tang Dynasty (AD 618-907) and includes the South Fujian Buddhist Academy.
Q: What do you suggest visitors do upon arriving Xiamen?
A: I think they need to plan ahead and leave some days to tour the tulou dwellings of the Hakka ethnic in neighboring areas and Kinmen Island in Taiwan, about 1 hour by boat. Our hotel staff are delighted to offer attentive service.
Q: What’s your favorite place in Xiamen for a stroll or jogging?
A: Wuyuan Bay Wetland Park has wooden plank roads, a pavilion, tower and bridges. It is a paradise for birds, and convenient for strolling and jogging with your friends and family. If you stay at Langham Place, Xiamen, it is about 15 minutes by foot from the hotel.
Q: What do you think is the best purchase in Xiamen?
A: Shi Gandang, the Xiamen iconic local mascot as a souvenir, the pineapple tarts and other local delicacies. Xiamen has abundant local specialties including Minnan tea.
Q: Where do you suggest visitors to go for authentic Xiamen cuisine?
A: A branch of southern Fujian cuisine, Xiamen dishes are usually fresh and light in flavor, and are sometimes slightly spicy. There are more than 200 varieties of Xiamen snacks, such as rice dumplings, fish ball soup, oyster omelets and satay sauce noodles.
Fresh seafood is available in almost every restaurant in the city. Try the peanut soup and oyster omelets at Huang Ze He Restaurant. Go for the satay sauce noodles and Xiamen spring rolls in small shops on Zhongshan Pedestrian Street. The seaworm jelly at Xi Men Tu Sun Dong is also worth trying.
Q: What’s your favorite way to travel around Xiamen?
A: My favorite way to travel around Xiamen is by bus. Xiamen’s buses are clean and have ample space. They offer easy access to some of the city’s popular attractions.
Q: What do you value most when choosing a hotel in Xiamen?
A: Where the hotel staff treats me as an individual and cares about my well-being. The hotel should have stylish art and be well designed.
Q: For what would you chase the housekeeping?
A: When the room is not clean and tidy enough. I don’t want any remain of last guests when I walk into the room; it is so important. If the housekeeping could know guests’ needs and build great memories, that would be much perfect.
