Drainage pipes as hotel rooms
DASPARKHOTEL in Ottensheim, Austria, offers stays in drainage pipes. Designed by Andreas Strauss, the rooms are constructed from repurposed, robust drain pipes. The limited space, each pipe measures only 8.5-inch (2.6-meter) in diameter, is cleverly designed to provide full headroom, a double bed, a storage space, and a small charging station. However, guests have to share toilets, showers in the surrounding public space and bring their own toiletries.
Set in an open-air park close to Donau River, the pipe rooms can be easily mistaken for some art installation works.
The hotel has a self service booking website and a “pay as you wish” system, in which guests can decide how much to pay for their rooms.
