Exclusive sanctuary hidden in Yalong Bay

WHEN people think of Hainan Island — China’s southernmost province often referred to as the “Hawaii of China” — they think of Sanya and Yalong Bay. The new Park Hyatt Sanya Sunny Bay Resort offers guests an enticing combination of privacy and exclusivity. The property has sequestered a private corner of Yalong Bay all to itself: a secluded inlet named Sunny Bay, a mere 5-kilometer drive from Yalong Bay proper.

Park Hyatt Sanya Sunny Bay Resort was created by the award-winning Belgian architect Jean-Michel Gathy of the renowned design consultancy firm Denniston. Set amid lush landscaping, every building and internal space has been carefully considered to maximize guests’ enjoyment of the breathtaking views. The six buildings are interlinked by wide walkways, furnished and decorated with paintings and sculptures to create multiple mise en scène, offering a tranquil, rare art-walk experience.

With only 207 rooms and villas across the 70,000 square meter property — very few for a development of this size — guests can spend a holiday at Park Hyatt Sanya Sunny Bay Resort and feel as if they have the resort to themselves. However, when service is desired, it will be prompt and of a premium standard: warm, discreet, attentive, intuitive and tailored to individual needs.

Designed to resemble a private mansion by the sea, the sophisticated, elegant interiors are residential in style with a subtle Chinese sensibility. As in private homes, the spaces are flexible and guests can use them however they wish.

The room structure at Park Hyatt Sanya Sunny Bay Resort is simple: 28 Park Rooms with balconies, 136 Ocean View Rooms, 25 Park Suites, a Chairman Suite and 17 Park Villas. Almost all guest rooms enjoy breathtaking beach and ocean views from panoramic windows stretching from one side of the room to the other, further extended by perpendicular mirrored glass at one side, creating the impression of a 270-degree view.

The culinary ethos of the international team of chefs at Park Hyatt Sanya Sunny Bay Resort — led by Hamish Neale from Australia and George Shao from Hangzhou — is to offer fresh seasonal ingredients, prepared simply, authentically and with passion. Thus, a range of authentic Chinese and Western dishes will incorporate ingredients of the highest quality, sourced locally whenever possible. In keeping with the residential concept and ambience of a resort setting, guests are welcome to order off the menu or request bespoke dishes, eat anytime they like and dine anywhere they choose, as relaxed and free as they might be at home.

There are eight main drinking and dining venues — Dining Room, Cellar, Pool House, Pool Bar, Bath House, Library, Terrace and Tea House — all of which follow the concept of rooms within a large residence. At each establishment, guests can order from the menus of any of the other dining venues.

Park Hyatt Sanya Sunny Bay Resort aims to be the most desirable, upscale event venue in Hainan. With eight unique, residential-style venues ranging from 42 square meters to 335 square meters, all blessed with natural light, outdoor terraces and state-of-the-art audio-visual equipment and lighting, the events team is confident it can arrange a successful, highly memorable occasion for every client.

Guests can choose from five swimming pools or, of course, the private beach.
