How long have you been staying in Suzhou?
More than two and a half years
How often do you travel?
Internationally 1 to 2 times per year
Favorite traveling style?
I like to drive by myself in a comfortable car.
Q: What do you always do after you return home from a trip?
A: I always try to put at least one day of rest between returning home and starting to work. That gives me time to recap the trip and to prepare for another period of work.
Q: What do you always search for during a trip?
A: I look for the real experience of that country or region. I want to eat what the locals eat and I want to do what the local people do.
Q: What do you always pack?
A: Nothing special: My phone, a pocket knife, comfortable and practical clothing.
Q: What is your preferred airline?
A: I learned to appreciate the value for money provided by the Middle Eastern airlines.
Q: Do you have any tips about seating on a flight?
A: Depending on the time of day, if I plan to sleep, I try to get a window seat where nobody can disturb me. If I have a day flight, I prefer an aisle seat, because then I can get in and out without disturbing the person next to me.
Q: Best in-flight meal or activity?
A: I watch a movie or listen to my music.
Q: How do you get over a jet lag?
A: I try to immediately follow the time at my current location.
Q: What are your favorite hotels? What makes these hotels so memorable?
A: Small- to mid-size hotels where you are not only a number for breakfast.
Q: What do you value most when choosing a hotel?
A: Good local food! But also, privacy and space. Attentive and individual service. Always available, but not obtrusive.
Q: What hotels do you look forward to staying at in the future?
A: Mount Nelson in Cape Town to start a journey following the “Garden Route.”
Q: What do you most recommend about Suzhou?
A: My favorite Suzhou garden is the Humble Administrator’s Garden.
Q: A must purchase or see in Suzhou?
A: Go to the famous local Kunqu opera museum to enjoy one hour of opera.
Q: What do you suggest travelers do upon arriving in Suzhou?
A: Eat Suzhou noodles.
Q: Where are you planning to go next and why?
A: We will visit my mother for Christmas.
Q: What’s the strangest request that a guest has made at your hotel?
A: He requested and got a birthday party for a bunch of Teddy bears.
