Reading added to St. Regis family package
LUXURY hotel and resort chain St. Regis Hotel and Resort is adding something new to its Family Traditions package: a summer reading program designed exclusively for guests in China.
With summer vacation just around the corner, St. Regis, a brand affiliate of the Starwood Hotels and Resorts Group, recently introduced a Children’s Mobile Library program at its Sanya Yalong Bay Resort. The program was launched in cooperation with famed Chinese children’s writer Peng Yang, the first writer from the country to produce books for Disney.
The library program is part of St. Regis’s Family Traditions package, which aims to provide a full-range of personalized services to guests traveling with children.
The Children’s Mobile Library is a new experience designed exclusively for the Chinese market. It will soon be available at all six of the resort chain’s locations across the country.
In light of education trends in China, St. Regis understands that many Chinese families are now placing increasing attention on the pleasure of education and free development. Many families are similarly trying to expand their children’s minds through travel. But this doesn’t mean that reading has to stop while families are on holiday.
Now, as of April, any family that books the Family Traditions package at St. Regis’s Sanya Yalong Bay Resort can access 30 Chinese- and English-language books handpicked by Peng for the resort’s new library program. Different books are recommended for various age groups — including children ages 2-5, 6-11 and 12, and over — although all are meant to provide young readers with a fun, entertaining and enlightening experience.
Over the years, Peng has received more than 20 awards for his children’s writing, including the Song Qingling Children’s Literature Award and the Galaxy Award. His works have been translated into several languages, including English, Japanese and Korean.
According to Peng, “the best time to develop children’s reading abilities is while traveling, not during class. The reason is simple: because children ... are more likely to enjoy reading when they are in a relaxing environment. I would encourage Chinese families to create more opportunities to read during vacation.”
All St. Regis hotels and resorts offer a full range of family-friendly activities centered around the local culture and environment. At the Sanya Yalong Bay Resort, young guests and their families can experience a host of different island activities, including mini golfing, snorkeling and kayak tours. Such activities can help children develop their practical abilities and understanding of the world, while also allowing for plenty of fun and memorable holiday moments.
What’s more, family packages also include family dinner set meals at the Minxuan Chinese restaurant and buy-one-get-one free deals in the hotel’s multi-media room. Free gifts and complementary children’s items are also available.
According to St. Regis’s Asia Pacific brand director, Fay Linn Yoeh: “We’ve noticed that in China, and in other parts of the world, family travel is becoming an increasing trend. In a recent survey of 100,000 Chinese families, 28 percent of respondents said that a family vacation would be their first choice when it came to family spending. St. Regis Family Traditions offers many special gifts and services for all families, including special kid menus and souvenirs ... we even offer babysitting services. Family Traditions is one of many customized packages at St. Regis and is designed to make sure that all our young guests can experience an unforgettable time with us.”
