Shanghai embraces Rio Olympic spirit

FROM early April, the Consulate General of Brazil in Shanghai kicked off a series of events designed to get local residents pumped for the upcoming 2016 Rio Olympic Games.
Just days before the Games kick off, the consulate, in collaboration with Shanghai World Financial Center (SWFC), will launch a photo exhibition focused on soccer. The show starts on August 1 and will run for three weeks.
It will showcase Brazil’s passion for soccer through 54 striking photos that record the historic moments such as Ronaldo Nazário and Rivaldo Ferreira at the FIFA World Cup in Japan and South Korea in 2002; and Dunga holding the trophy as captain of the winning Brazilian team at the 1994 World Cup.
Other big names like Diego Souza and Cafu can also be found in the photos exhibited at the first-floor Office Lobby of the SWFC.
The building’s exterior LED lights will be lit up with the colors of the Rio Olympics on August 4, the eve of the opening ceremony.
“As part of an initiative that Brazil is having in many cities across the world, the Rio Olympic colors will be shown on SWFC’s illumination in yellow and green, which will definitely be an exciting moment,” says Juliana Gaspar Ruas, deputy consul of Brazil in Shanghai.
The SWFC’s Sunken Garden, which is a relaxing and artisticly decorated outdoor space, will hold the Beer Garden events on three Friday evenings in August. Visitors can enjoy beer, delicious foods accompanied with live shows, and join in games to win prizes.
