Sri Lanka’s eco-friendly hotel
The final piece of work by Sri Lankan architect master Geoffrey Bawa, the hotel Heritance Kandalama is among the most enticing hotels in the Indian Ocean island country.
About 20 minutes’ drive from the world cultural heritage Golden Temple of Dambulla, the hotel has an eco-friendly feature. Hidden deep in the jungle, the hotel recycles rainfall and uses mountain wind to adjust the temperature inside, which therefore, cuts down carbon emissions.
Established in 1991, the hotel blends well with the surrounding area, built entirely upon mountain rocks. Customers are greeted by monkeys and other animals dwelling nearby. Every room overlooks Lake Kandalama. Guests can also see the landmark Sigiriya Lion Rock.
