Xixi Wetland and the sweet note of Kunqu Opera
WHEN autumn falls, the Xixi Wetland National Park in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province, is turned into a palette of green trees, white reed flowers, yellow grasses and cyan aquatic. Visitors are whisked onto a boat, winding through the reed marshes to savor the beauty of the wetland, while listening to Kunqu opera.
About 5 kilometers from Hangzhou’s West Lake, the Xixi Wetland covers more than 11 square kilometers. It is China’s first wetland national park, some 70 percent of which comprises a maze-like water courses of ponds, lakes, bays and marshes.
Xinhua news agency photographer Xu Yu captures the beauty.
