10 months for theft during race
A man who stole a bag from an American expat watching a Formula 1 auto race at the Shanghai International Circuit in April was sentenced to 10 months in prison for theft, the Jiading District People's Court said yesterday.
The 27-year-old convict, Su Lianjun, was also fined 2,000 yuan (US$315).
On April 15, Su sneaked into the racing venue and targeted the man who left his bag and belongings on a next-door seat and walked away to take pictures of the exciting race.
The court said Su took advantage of the situation and picked up the bag which included a laptop computer, a Nikon camera and other valuables, without being noticed. Su was stopped by a policeman for his suspicious behavior when he was trying to leave the circuit.
