SHANGHAI government is to allocate 100 million yuan (US$15.8 million) to help kindergartens, schools and seniors' homes install fire alarms.
A local regulation improving fire safety standards will take effect on March 1, local officials announced yesterday. It requires all facilities for children and seniors to have fire alarms, sets higher fire safety standards on local buildings, with tougher punishments for property managers who don't comply.
Sprinkler systems and fire alarms are also being installed in 700 local residential high-rises that are more than 20 years old.
