16 seized in illegal bottled gas business
SHANGHAI police said this morning they have detained 16 suspects for illegally bottling and delivering liquefied gas.
Nine vans, a dozen of mopeds and pedicabs used for gas delivery, and 360 gas cylinders were confiscated in a spot on Zhongshan Road W. in Xuhui District, police said.
The ring, headed by three men surnamed Wang, Liu and Ni, purchased liquefied gas via illegal channels for 93 yuan (US$14.9) per cylinder and sold it at 100 yuan plus a 10 yuan delivery fee to small restaurants and migrant workers in the district, police said.
Most of the cylinders are dangerous with expired safety checks, the officers said.
Last Tuesday, police launched a crackdown operation and caught the suspects in four hideouts in the district.
