17 Prosecuted For Driving Under Influence

ALTOGETHER 17 drunk drivers have been prosecuted since a tougher road safety law went into effect on May 1, the Shanghai Prosecutors' Office revealed yesterday.

Alcohol density in the blood of the suspects surpassed the drunk driving standard of 80 milligrams per 100 milliliters and even reaching 200 milligrams per 100 milliliters for some, prosecutors said.

Zhang Jiafeng crashed into a sanitation worker in suburban Songjiang District, injuring him at dawn on May 3. When Zhang was caught, his blood alcohol density was 255 milligrams per 100 millimeters.

Of the 17 suspects, aged between 23 and 47, 16 were men.
