170m yuan raised in city's charity campaign

SHANGHAI Charity Foundation raised 170 million yuan (US$25 million) from the public during the month-long charity campaign “Greatest Love under the Sky,” which concluded last night.

Meanwhile, eight major partners in the campaign donated 98 million yuan worth of money and goods to about 186,000 people in need.

On Saturday morning, 80 private business owners donated over 5 million yuan to a four-year-old fund of the foundation which is dedicated to about 50 programs of poverty and disaster relief. So far 23 million yuan has been contributed to the fund, the foundation said.

Saturday's charity campaign was also joined by Shanghai Youth League. Its Shanghai Youth Development Foundation donated 280,000 yuan to the city's college students who are from low-income families. Around Shanghai, teenagers from such families received 1.35 million yuan in total from the organization, it said.
