2 Chinese productions earn Tony Awards nominations
The Chinese-produced musical "Something Rotten!" and the drama "Hand to God” have recently received a combined 15 nominations at the 69th Tony Awards.
The annual awards, the American theater industry's equivalent to the Oscars, will be handed out on June 7.
The musical comedy "Something Rotten!" revolves around two brothers who follow a soothsayer’s suggestion and invent musical theater. It picked up 10 nominations, including for best musical, best director and best musical script.
"Hand to God" is a dark comedy that mixes violence and puppets. It explores the fragility of faith, morality, and human relationships. It earned five nominations, including for best drama, best director, best actor and best actress.
Shanghai-based China Media Capital produced both shows.
