2 detained for selling toxic paint that sickened 69 workers

TWO men were detained for making and selling inferior waterproof paint that poisoned 69 workers last week, Shanghai police said today.
The incident happened last Friday when the workers of Haoyuan Bio-Tech Co in Qingpu District felt sick after inhaling toxic fumes while painting a factory roof. They went a hospital for observation and left the hospital later in the day.
Police found the paint was bought from the Tenglong Building Materials Company in neighboring Jiangsu Province and detained its legal person and salesman the next day. More than 300 barrels of the toxic paint were confiscated.
Both men confessed that the paint was made from waste materials, police said.
