2 held over fake coins
TWO suspects, including a college student, have been detained for allegedly selling fake souvenir coins of Shanghai World Expo, city police said yesterday.
Officers said the student, surnamed Zheng, sold four sets of fake coins for 12,000 yuan (US$1,757) to a man on March 30 in Putuo District.
Zheng bought the coins from a dealer, surnamed Lin, at a stamp market. Lin sold each set to Zheng for between 120 yuan and 200 yuan.
Zheng was nabbed on April 12 and Lin was caught four days later, police said. Dozens of fake coin sets and more than 2,000 fake Expo souvenir stamps were found at Lin's residence, police said.
