2 hospitalized after suicide try

A woman tried to commit suicide by stabbing herself in the throat with a pair of scissors after stabbing her mother-in-law, city police said yesterday.
The woman, not identified, was in critical condition in the intensive care unit in Minhang District Central Hospital last night. Her 82-year-old mother-in-law surnamed Zhang was also stabbed in the throat and was reported in stable condition yesterday after surgery, police said.
Zhang's family said the woman is Zhang's older daughter-in-law and that Zhang had been living with the couple since 2003.
The incident happened around 4pm on Tuesday in a residential area in Minhang District, police said. The two had a big fight and no one else was on the scene to stop them when the incident escalated, the family said. Pictures of the younger woman in the hospital with a pair of scissors lodged in her throat were uploaded to Weibo.com and prompted a huge number of reposts, with most netizens expressing shock and horror.
