3 die as car plunges into river

THREE men died and another was injured after a car plunged into a river in suburban Shanghai late Sunday night, police said yesterday.
The sedan hit a railing and crashed into the river in Hangtou Town of the Pudong New Area about 10:45pm on Sunday. The car was pulled from the river about 11:20pm, police said.
The three men inside the car died later at a local hospital. The other man, who managed to escape from the car, survived with bruises, police said.
The four men, workers with a medical institute on Zhangjiang Road, were driving home after dining at a restaurant on Hunan Road when the accident occurred. Restaurant workers said they didn't know whether they had been drinking. Police said they held the survivor as part of the investigation to find out which man was driving and whether the driver had been drinking.
