3 men dead, 1 in coma as car hits city bus, tree
THREE men died and one man was injured in a car-bus collision early yesterday morning in the Pudong New Area.
The driver of the car, surnamed Zhang, is in a coma at a hospital with a head injury.
The car hit the front of a city night bus about 4am at the intersection of Laiyang and Dongbo roads, then swerved and hit a roadside tree, a witness said. There were no serious injuries on the bus, police said.
Two people sitting in the car's back seat died at the scene and a man sitting next to the driver was pronounced dead at the hospital, police said. Police said they ruled out drunk driving. A TV report said the men, friends in their 20s, were on their way back after a Sunday party for China's Singles Day.
In another case, a taxi driver was killed and a passenger had a serious head injury yesterday morning as driver lost control and hit a guardrail on downtown Zhoujiazui Road.
