3 more detained in Jiaozhou Road high-rise blaze
THREE more suspects were detained following a fatal Shanghai high-rise fire that killed 58 people on November 15, a spokesman for Shanghai No. 2 People's Procuratorate confirmed yesterday.
The three suspects are Gao Weizhong, director of the construction and transportation commission of Jing'an District, and two other officials with the commission, Zhou Jianmin and Zhang Quan.
The fire erupted on the afternoon of November 15 after welding sparks set nylon netting and scaffolding around the building on fire.
Officials have blamed the tragedy on unlicensed welders, illegal sub-contracting and poor management.
Thirteen suspects were earlier arrested, including the welders and managers of the construction companies.
