3 years for theft

A fugitive who went on the run for 16 years after stealing almost 50,000 yuan (US$7,852) from a safe of his former company was sentenced to three years in prison and fined 30,000 yuan, the Jing'an District People's Court said yesterday. Wang Yang, 40, took 48,276 yuan when he was a warehouse keeper at a local industrial company in 1995.
