30 hospitals in heart attack emergency network to improve aid efficiency

A total of 30 local hospitals have participated in a heart attack emergency network to improve the treating efficiency for patients. So far, the network has covered downtown areas as well as outskirts districts of Jiading, Fengxian, Songjiang and Chongming County, medical experts announced today.

All these hospitals have a 24-hour green channel to give emergency treatment for patients with heart attack no matter when the ambulance arrives and conducts quick check, diagnosis and treatment, experts told the Oriental Congress of Cardiology in the city.

Dr Huo Yong, director of cardiology branch of Chinese Medical Association said the incidence of heart attack is rising in China annually. There are at least 500,000 patients suffering heart attack in China every year and over 30 percent of them die.

The high mortality in China is not because of the medical skills but a poor emergency treatment system, which can last for 13 to 15 hours from disease oncome to receive the treatment. “The delayed treatment cause a poor treating effects and high mortality,” he said.
