4 killed in Putuo residential complex fire

FOUR people were killed in a fire which broke out in a rented apartment in Putuo District on Wednesday night.

The incident took place in a residential complex on Zhongshan Road N. at about 11:30pm.

The fire was subdued by 0:05. The four residents were confirmed dead on the scene, local government said.

Investigation on the cause of the fire is underway.

Government said it will step up efforts to remove irregularities in the home renting market.
