4 locals hurt in Taiwan crash
FOUR Shanghai tourists were injured in a bus accident yesterday afternoon in Taiwan.
None of the injuries are life-threatening, local tourism authorities said.
A bus carrying 16 people from Shanghai glanced off a mountainside near Shuangliou National Forest Recreation Area in Pingtung County, according to the Shanghai Tourism Administration.
Organized by the East Shanghai International Travel Service Co Ltd, the party included 15 tourists and a tour guide.
It is reported that around 2pm, the bus attempted to avoid another vehicle, but hit the mountainside.
Four people were taken to hospital after the accident. One tourist, named Jiang Linkang, suffered a broken rib and had to stay in hospital last night, where he was accompanied by his wife.
The other three tourists received only slight injuries and were able to complete the trip, according to the travel service company.
Apollo Travel Service Co Ltd, the agency that received the tour group in Taiwan, is dealing with the aftermath, said Shanghai Tourism Administration. The East Shanghai company will deal with compensation once the group returns to the city.
Taiwan police were investigating the accident last night.
This was the second bus accident in Taiwan over the weekend. On Saturday, a bus taking 24 Taiwan locals overturned in Hualien County, resulting in 22 people being sent to hospital.
There have been concerns over the safety of Taiwan-bound tourism recently. On April 28, five tourists from the Chinese mainland were killed when a small train overturned in Ali Mountain area.
