4 workers perish, metal factory shut
FOUR workers died at a metal factory in suburban Jinshan District yesterday after they were overcome by poisonous gases, officials said.
The deaths happened about 1:20pm yesterday at a factory pool for electroplating, said the district government. After two workers were seen entering the pool area but not coming out, two more workers went in to search for them, witnesses said. All four were pronounced dead when emergency rescuers arrived. City work safety authorities said three of them were temporary workers "who has little basic training." The factory's owner was being questioned by police. The factory's operations were suspended, officials said.
