5 fire victims leave hospital, 66 still in treatment
FIVE people injured in the deadly blaze last Monday have been discharged from hospital and two have got through critical stage, a Shanghai Health Bureau official said today.
At present 66 fire victims are being treated at seven local hospitals. Fourteen of them are still in critical condition with four living on respiratory machines. Earlier, 10 people needed respiratory machine.
The youngest, a three-year-old girl, was the first to leave hospital on Friday, said Xu Jianguang, director of Shanghai Health Bureau.
"We will closely monitor all the patients and give them the best treatment since they may suffer different complications and infection during this period of time," Xu said.
Local health authorities also provided psychological screening and consultation to patients, their relatives and other victims in temporary shelters after their homes were consumed by the fire.
Doctors have given 1,217 intervention sessions, including 309 to those with serious problems, and transferred 10 patients to psychiatric hospitals.
Eight teams gave emergency psychological intervention to children who lost their families and relatives of migrant workers who died or were injured in the fire.
"Many survivors are recovering from the trauma," Xu added.
