58 city scenic spots to offer half-price tickets on May 19

Fifty-eight scenic spots across the city will offer half-price tickets on May 19 to mark the China Tourism Day, tourism authorities announced today.

Some popular tourist attractions on the list include Shanghai's iconic Oriental Pearl TV Tower, Shanghai Science and Technology Museum, Shanghai Jinmao Tower, Jinjiang Amusement Park, and Shanghai Ocean Aquarium. Parks such as Chenshan Botanical Garden and Shanghai Gongqing Forest Park and water towns like Zhujiajiao and Xinchang are also included.

It has become a tradition for big scenic spots in the city to provide half-price tickets on this day and during the annual Shanghai Tourism Festival amid complaints that the tickets of tourist attractions are expensive.

Long queues were reported by popular scenic spots in the past years when half-price discount was offered with some witnessing two to three times of tourist increase compared with normal day.

Meanwhile, the Shanghai World Travel Fair 2016 will also open on the same day at the Shanghai Exhibition Center, featuring exhibitors from 50 countries and an expected 60,000 visitors, the Shanghai Tourism Administration said today.

Tourism exhibitors from Poland and Ethiopia will participate in the event for the first time.

A number of travel agencies such as Shanghai Spring Tour and Tuniu will bring diversified tour packages with deep discounts to the four-day event. Tourism forums will be held.

Visitors are able to win free tours priced over 10,000 yuan (US$1,612) by picking their dream destinations at the event.
