6 hurt in vicious restaurant fight
LOCAL police said yesterday they are investigating a group fight in which six people were injured over the weekend in Pudong New Area.
Arrests have been made in the fight, which occurred about 9:20pm on Saturday and involved the use of knives and possibly guns. Onlookers said they heard noise like gunfire during the fight in a restaurant in Pudong's Gaoqiao Town. But police did not disclose whether guns were seized.
Waiters said they first saw a few people, some of whom they recognized as frequent customers, sitting at two tables but after ordering they remained oddly silent instead of talking to each other, as they normally did.
Three men soon came to the restaurant, carrying knives and other weapons, said a witness.
Witnesses also said they saw some people run out of the restaurant.
"I saw a man, blood all over his clothes, run towards a bus station," said a street vendor at the scene.
That injured man was then carried by two companions and put into a car that drove off. The car was subsequently stopped by police.
Those believed to have been the attackers were controlled by police arriving at the scene, and the injured were sent to hospitals for treatment. The restaurant was condoned off.
Doctors said two of the six injured suffered relatively severe stab wounds on their arms, backs and chests. They required surgery and remained in the hospital yesterday.
