6 sent to jail in private data case
SIX people were dealt jail sentences for illegally peddling customer data that involved more than 300,000 people, the Putuo District People's Court said yesterday.
The convicts, all in their 20s, were sentenced to up to one year in prison for acquiring and selling individuals' private information including names, phone numbers and home addresses. The court said they were both buyers and sellers. In one case, a 26-year-old convict surnamed Yang bought the list of 300,000 clients from another convict, surnamed Zhao, for 500 yuan and, after using it, resold it for 200 yuan.
