6-vehicle pile-up kills 1

ONE woman was killed and six people injured in a six-vehicle crash yesterday on an expressway in the Pudong New Area, police said.

The injured, four seriously, were treated at a hospital.

The accident happened about 12:40am on the Outer Ring Road, police said. A heavy cargo truck was towing a medium-sized vehicle when there was a problem. Three people from the two vehicles went out to check, police said, and were hit by vehicles that were behind them. One woman, surnamed Kan, 40, died at the scene, police said.

The incident also led to a six-car pile-up. One injured person, a driver surnamed Zeng, was still in critical condition late yesterday. Doctors said yesterday that Zeng "was in deep coma" and they were trying to save his life.
