A woman from East Asia was taken into custody for illegally staying in Shanghai for eight years, the city's exit-entry authority said yesterday. The woman, whose name was not released, moved in with a man surnamed Wang in 2001.
She gave birth to a girl in 2002. Her visa expired eight years ago, the authority said. The woman was caught recently while in a police station to inquire about how to get her daughter admitted to a school.
