91-year-old has jujube pit removed
A JUJUBE pit that became lodged in the esophagus of a 91-year-old man, leaving him in a critical condition, has been removed by surgeons.
Huadong Hospital said yesterday that the elderly patient, surnamed Huang, has been discharged. Zuo Gang, a hospital official, said the patient swallowed the pit and that it became stuck in the esophagus and pierced his windpipe. "Without surgery, the patient could have died any time," Zuo said.
