A repeat killer faces capital punishment
A man who killed his girlfriend on August 8 and later turned himself in was convicted of intentional homicide, said prosecutors in Huangpu District yesterday.
They said Lin Xiafu, 54, had criminal records of such crime. The victim surnamed Wang was the third girlfriend he tried to kill.
Lin surrendered to police on August 11, accompanied by his younger brother, saying he had killed his live-in girlfriend. Her body was later found in Lin's home by police. The prosecutors said Lin had strangled Wang to death.
The two had lived together since last year. Later Lin found Wang was dating a new boyfriend and was not always at home. The murder happened in the afternoon of August 8 after the two had a quarrel.
Lin said he had thought about committing suicide but was persuaded by his brother to surrender to police.
The prosecutors said Lin had attacked one girlfriend and caused her death in 1983. He was sentenced to death with a reprieve but was later released on medical parole. After that Lin seriously wounded another girlfriend and was sentenced to 16 years in jail for attempted murder. Lin was released in 2006.
