A wave of ultramodern movies soon coming to theaters
THE latest production of mainland film maker Chen Kaige, “Monk Comes Down the Mountain,” will have an international release on July 3.
The film, starring Wang Baoqiang, Aaron Kwok and Fan Wei, will be screened in IMAX 3D and regular 3D versions to depict action-packed scenes of Chinese kung fu.
Many of its actors such as Yuen Wah, Chang Chen and Wang Baoqiang even have a martial arts background.
The film's international trailer was also shown at the ongoing 18th Shanghai International Film Festival.
The film centers on the journey of a Chinese monk who discovers the true meaning of the world and pursues his destiny.
"The movie is also about the age-old Taoist philosophy which influenced Chinese culture for a long time," said director Chen. "It took us more than 7 months to shoot the movie about an ordinary yet selfless person."
The online ticketing website, Gewara.com, also announced its new collaboration with Wanda Films on the distribution, marketing and ticketing for a series of avant-garde Chinese movies.
These movies, mostly created by new directors, feature innovative ideas, subjects and arts. Among these motion pictures are a drama film, "Go away Mr. Tumour,” a cartoon suspense film, "Detective Chin Tang" and a sequel to the hilarious comedy, "One Hundred Thousand Bad Jokes."
