A whopping 200,000-yuan water bill for a Songjiang resident
A water plant in Shanghai's Songjiang District has apologized to a local resident who was shocked to receive 200,000-yuan (US$31,398) water bill yesterday, saying an employee's misreading caused the mistake.
The resident surnamed Chu said he received an "unbelievable" water bill of 223,997.8 yuan for the amount of water his family used last month.
The water plant in Yexie Town later found it was an employee who misread the 108 tons on Chu's water meter as 105,101 tons. The actual fee Chu should pay is 15.68 yuan, the plant said.
A new bill has been sent to Chu and the employee will apologize to him in person, the company said.
