Abandoned baby sent to orphanage as parents stay away
A 2-month-old girl found abandoned in a local hospital ten days ago was given to the care of a Shanghai children's home this afternoon as her parents failed to show up after media reports.
The Baoshan District Central Hospital said the children's home will send the girl to a professional hospital to treat her congenital heart disease.
"She needs oxygen treatment all the time due to the disease," said Xie Xiongbin, an official with the hospital. "Surgery is the only way to cure her heart disease."
The girl was found in the hospital's pediatric ward on the morning of February 4. She was wearing a red cloak with a red bag stuffed with her clothes beside her.
Police checked the hospital's surveillance video for clues and appealed to her parents to pick up their baby via its official Weibo and media coverage. But no one contacted the hospital in the past ten days, while many local residents expressed their wish to adopt the girl.
