Air fares to nosedive after Spring Festival

AIR fares for both domestic and international flights will plummet soon after the Spring Festival. It is good news for off-season travelers, a local carrier said today.
Ticket prices will start falling next Monday, the second day of the Chinese New Year, for outbound flights from Shanghai, the Spring Airlines said.
But prices of some inbound flights may increase for a while as people come back after their holiday trips, the Shanghai-based budget carrier said.
Its air fares will keep dropping from February 17 to as low as 99 yuan for flights to the northeastern city of Dalian and northwestern city of Xi'an. One-way ticket to Hong Kong will cost only 199 yuan.
"People can travel during this period of time to save a lot of money on air tickets," the Spring Airlines spokesman said.
Ticket prices for international flights will drop by about 60 percent in March, especially to destinations in Southeast Asia and Australia, according to Ctrip.com, a Chinese online ticket-booking platform.
Prices for many hotels in popular destinations like Phuket Island will also decline during the slow season in March, Ctrip said.
