Air quality worsens today, keep your face mask handy

Smoggy conditions continue in Shanghai this morning with the air remaining heavily polluted.

The air quality index peaked at 275 at 8am, with the main smog pollutant PM2.5 particles reaching over 228 micrograms per cubic meter.

People with weak respiratory systems are advised to stay indoors today.

The temperature is forecast to reach 34 degrees Celsius today. Yesterday the mercury topped 30 degrees for the first time this year, climbing to 31 degrees.

The hot weather this week will bring some sunshine. Tomorrow’s high is forecast to be 34 degrees, with the mercury easing to 32 degrees under cloudy skies on Thursday.
