Airline promises probe after woman alleged she's sexually harassed by co-passenger without being helped

CHINA Eastern Airlines said it would investigate a Chinese passenger’s claim of alleged sexual harassment by a co-passenger on its Vancouver-Shanghai flight on May 10.
In its official statement, the airline said they "were sorry" for the female passenger about her experience as claimed and an investigation would be launched.
The victim, Xiao Yan, is a student in Vancouver and was flying back home on flight MU582. She claimed a man sitting in front of her and wearing Indian-style costume was watching porn videos on his mobile phone and made suggestive gestures at her on the flight.
Xiao, who hails from Nanjing in neighboring Jiangsu Province, said she was given seat number 75F — the last row in the cabin. Three of his friends sat in the same row as her.
“He displayed the porn video and made gestures to me at least five times,” the woman told Jiangsu television station.
She said she was too frightened to resist strongly because she was surrounded by his friends. Eventually, she went up to the first class cabin and complained to a flight attendant.
“I asked that the chief flight attendant or the captain be informed, and requested a change in seat and deal with the passenger after landing,” she said.
But the crew did not change her seat or even investigate the passenger.
After landing, the woman informed the airport police at the Pudong International Airport but they had transferred to another flight and left China.
“I want China Eastern to apologize and compensate me and assist the police with the investigation,” Xiao said.
The Shanghai-based airline today said after receiving her complaint, a flight attendant accompanied the woman to investigate but did not find any abnormality. There were security guards on board as well who did not notice anything.
The airline said the crew could not change her seat because it was a packed flight.
