Algae sets record
THE city cleared out 13,000 tons of algae in the Huangpu River and Suzhou Creek this year, setting a record. Districts cleaned off about 100,000 tons of algae. The peak season for algae in Shanghai is May and June. Shanghai Greenery and Public Sanitation Bureau is looking at ecologically friendly uses for algae and water hyacinth instead of burying it.
