All eyes on the girls at city exhibition
There was a rush for front row seats when the Seventh China International Adult Toys and Reproductive Health Exhibition opened at the Shanghai International Exhibition Center in Hongqiao yesterday.
The annual event, which ends on Sunday, provides business opportunity for professionals and enjoyment for the public, with shows featuring models and adult video stars.
An hour before the first show, all the front row seats had been taken.
"I should have brought a ladder," said a man whose view was blocked by the large crowd.
More than 100 sex product producers from home and abroad are represented at the show.
"I can see a booming market here as the enthusiasm of Chinese people has impressed me a lot," said Dirk Bauer, CEO of Fun Factory, a German company producing adult products.
Domestic companies are also optimistic about the future.
"Our business is not much affected by the economic crisis," said Zheng Hao, general manager of Zhengtian Co in Shijiazhuang of Hubei Province.
"I believe that more people here will become frequent buyers of adult products in the following 10 years, as life is getting better."
Gao Guoxing, an official of the China Exhibition Center Group Corp's Shanghai branch, which is running the event, said: "At least 20 to 30 foreign and domestic companies coming to the fair this year are really top ones in the industry. Some big companies didn't show up due to the crisis last year. But it is different this year."
An official from Liaoyang Baile Health Care Product Co, one of China's biggest sex toy and product manufacturers, said last year sales reached 100 million yuan -- a 30 percent annual increase.
