Ambulance operator suspended for failing to help car crash victim
An ambulance hotline operator who failed to respond to a plea for help from a passer-by who witnessed a car accident because of confusion over where the incident took place, has been suspended, the Fengxian District health watchdog said today. The delay led to the death of one of the crash victims, a woman.
The 57-year-old woman, Wang Zhen, and her husband were hit by a car in an area bordering two city districts shortly after 8pm on Tuesday.
A passer-by surnamed Xi dialed 120 instantly when he saw the accident.
However, because the accident took place on the border of Fengxian and Pudong New Area, the two district emergency hotline centers kept passing the buck around with neither sending a rescue car.
The Fengxian emergency center finally sent an ambulance following a request from police who managed to reach the spot.
The woman was dead on arrival at hospital, doctors said.
