Another old man found dead at home
CLOSE on the heels of the discovery of a lonely old man's dead body months after his death last Saturday, another elderly local resident was found dead at his home in Zhabei District on Monday morning.
He, too, had not been seen for a few days.
The body of the 61-year-old man surnamed Tu was already decaying and giving out a stinking odor when police opened the door of his apartment on Zhonghuaxin Road after being notified by neighbors of his disappearance.
Tu, who had just retired, lived alone in the 20-square-meter apartment after being divorced, one of his neighbors said.
Tu had participated in his daughter's wedding ceremony on October 28 and distributed wedding sweets to neighbors the next day in a joyful mood.
"He also told us he would be traveling outside Shanghai for a while and left a key of his apartment at one of the neighbors in case of emergency," said the neighbor surnamed Dai who lives on the same floor.
The neighbors later became aware of Tu's absence, while a first-floor neighbor noticed that a light at his home was always burning. They then called police.
The time and cause of death were still under investigation.
