Apartment's wall was not so great
A CONSTRUCTION company and a quality supervision firm responsible for shoddy materials used in an apartment were fined 120,000 yuan (US$1,758) and 6,000 yuan respectively yesterday.
Sand and broken bricks, instead of cement, were found inside the wall in an apartment in suburban Fengxian District.
But the main structure of the building was safe, said the district construction commission.
The apartment owner, surnamed Zhou, got 50,000 yuan compensation from the developer, Shanghai Oumeiya Real Estate Co Ltd, and has had the wall repaired by another construction company.
"The poor construction quality and lax supervision was alarming," said Nie Qi, deputy director of the commission.
The commission found workers from the Shanghai Yueyue Construction Co Ltd had filled gaps with brick and sand and supervisors from Shanghai Yijian Construction Project Supervision Co Ltd had failed to spot the shoddy work.
