Arrest for secret video of neighbor in shower

A MAN alleged to have secretly filmed a neighbor taking a shower and then tried to blackmail her has been arrested, Minhang District prosecutors said yesterday.
Wang Chao, faces charges of extortion for trying to get his neighbor to pay 5,000 yuan (US$782).
Prosecutors say Wang decided on the scheme after his girlfriend was cheated out of 5,000 yuan by strangers on arriving in Shanghai in May.
Wang was living in a rental house with communal bathrooms where many tenants took showers.
Having heard of a nude photographs blackmail scheme on the news, the Jiangxi Province native decided to try something similar.
Last July, Wang sneaked into the communal women's bathroom and hid his cellphone in a basket, pointing the camera at the shower.
Half an hour later, Wang returned and found his phone had recorded a woman showering. He recognized her as a neighbor.
Wang burned the video to disk, wrote a note demanding 5,000 yuan for the footage and left them for her.
However, she called the police.
Wang, who was born in the 1990s, was apprehended two days later.
